Our Round 6 clash against Pakenham last week, proved to be one of the most rewarding rounds for the Wickers, with the girls coming away with 7 out of 10 wins. After the threat of torrential rain all week for Saturday, each team made the most of the sunshine and perfect conditions, and managed to piece together everything we have been working on, both as a club and individual teams, up until this point.
C Grade got off to a flying start, recording their best first quarter for the season. Welcoming a few new and old faces into the team with Jaime Cotter, Saahara Usman and Caitlin Anthony, seemed to help gel the girls across the whole court and gave them a spark in their urge to secure their first win. The defensive pressure down the whole court provided the girls with numerous scoring opportunities, from which the goaling combination of Georgia & Katie definitely capitalised. With a final score of 37-10, it shows the potential within this team and gives a little taste of whats to come.
Another team got their first win of the season last week, with our D grade girls putting together a strong 4 quarter performance and coming away with a 25-11 victory. Coach Mikaela Greer has been putting in the hard yards with these girls, hoping to make them the best they can be and realise the talent within each of them. The defence combination of Hayley Trait and Sarah O’Hagan worked tirelessly all game, gaining many intercepts and tips for the rest of their team. Each week, this group of girls are improving and gaining more skills to implement in their games, we as a club could not be any more prouder of their determination to step out each week and show other teams what they've got.
We hope to carry this momentum and positivity into Round 7 as we travel to Doveton, for what is not only going to be a long day, but a great day of netball for our teams!
