Round 2 v Cranbourne

April 8, 2017

Coming into Round 2 with more confidence than Battle of the Creek, the #wickerchicks are certainly proving our critics wrong, and showing the rest of the league that the talk of our re-build is getting us off to a good start to 2017 so far.

Both 13 & U sides kicked off a strong start to our first home game of the season and cemented some great wins. ,Their display of ball work and fundamental skills was highly commended and showed the talent we have ready to come through our ranks.

With combinations forming and being affirmed within the 15 Reds & Whites, both teams came together to show the strength in their teamwork and preparation for these matches. This clearly shone through on court, providing great wins in round 2.

A late goal to Cranbourne on the whistle, saw a nail biting draw in 17 Whites with all eyes tightly on the timer as the goal went up and in !  Certainly showing what drive these girls are showing so early in the season.  17 Reds were goal for goal all game and Cranbourne turned on their goaling in the last quarter, coming away with the win and leaving our Wickers with the determination to finish it off next round against Hampton Park.

Our seniors certainly proved that fighting spirit is back for 2017! With a single player change in B & A grade, momentum progressed and B grade came away with a brilliant win, leaving A grade to bring their experience together into the last game of the day.  A complete nail biter with an 8 goal turn around in the 3rd quarter, the match came down to the final minutes, seeing Cranbourne come away with the win by a mere 2 goals, certainly not the prediction of 15.

Both C & D grade have a little bit to work in the coming weeks, to gain momentum and get some wins on the board.  We remember that Rome wan't built in a day and we aim high for the coming seasons for our club.

This week's matches against Hampton Park will certainly be an exciting day of match ups and skills.
