Round 17

August 16, 2016

Our last Home game of the season provided a great day of netball and athleticism by both clubs. It was great to see our junior girls giving all they had, despite coming up against some of the strongest teams in the league. BNC would like to give a mention and a big thank you to all of our parents and volunteers that have helped out all year with the setup and running of game day. Things would definitely not run as smoothly for our players without your generous and consistent help and support, it is very much appreciated.

U13 Red

The girls this week went into the game focusing on how they work on things as a team and staying united no matter what the opposition threw at them. Changing up our positions for the 2nd half showed just how versatile we can be and gave the girls the opportunity to have some great fun on the court with each other.

Final Score 5-39, BOC: Rylee Broadley

U15 Red

Although not necessarily reflected on the scoreboard, the girls had maybe the best four consecutive quarters they have had all year. Not only was it great to see the girls playing well individually but also as a team, and they should be extremely proud of the consistency they showed on the court.

Final Score 16-26, BOC: Lauren Castricum

U15 White

The team knew coming into this game that it was going to be a tough match. With ROC sitting on top of the ladder, our girls sitting just outside the top 5, it was a must win game for us. The result wasn’t exactly what we had hoped for, but overall efforts across the board were awesome. The girls fought right until the very end, with special mention to Tahlia Dale for an amazing performance out in GA. Not only was she a valuable asset down in the goaling ring with her strong hands, accurate shooting and her defensive pressure down the court was nothing less than perfect. In saying that, all of the girls played a great game, everything came together and our plays down the court just seemed to flow. A great job by all our girls!

Final Score 15-16, BOC: Tahlia Dale & Keeley Stickley

U17 Red

After a slow start the girls played an amazing 2nd and 3rd quarter. The girl’s ability to keep their heads up and keep persisting every week has been admirable to watch. Lets finish of the season with a strong last game!

Final Score 30-41, BOC: Jemima Price

ROC brought the challenge to the table, and made us work hard for the full four quarters. We had a few lapses of concentration, but in the end were able to settle, re-group and re-focus to finish the game off strongly and come away with the 4 points.

Final Score 39-28, BOC: Grace Wanders

C Grade

Not the prettiest game of netball from the girls, especially with the finals series fast approaching. Addressing these matters and ensuring we are on the same page will be high on the agenda. On a brighter note, Eliza came out in fine form and will now have to stick to the rule of being in bed at 8:30pm pre-game day!!!

Final Score 21-18, Rochet Kitchens BOC: Eliza Abel

Finally a full squad! Coming off a win last week we felt strong & confident. Starting with our finishing combo, we struggled to spark requiring a change at 2nd quarter. At half time saw a goaling rotation and the long awaited return of Mikaela. The new combination in the circle showed slick movement and completion. It produced a great quarter bringing us back to 3 goals down. At the other end, on fire Rebecca Vickers, hunting every ball that came her way, together with our mid court players we continued to compose ourselves to complete our possession. With 40 seconds to go, scoring to be 1 goal down, oppositions centre pass - a huge effort for the turnover, the girls played hard and kept ROC only 1 goal up.

Final Score 37-38, Arden Homes BOC: Rebecca Vickers & Mikaela Greer

Last week, the Berwick Netball Club senior teams wore blue and yellow armbands in memory of Carolyn Goodie, and to raise awareness for the Melanoma Institute of Australia. Australia has the highest rate of melanoma anywhere in the world. On average 30 Australians are diagnosed every day, and close to 1700 will die from it each year. Prevention is the key so it is important to have your skin checked regularly by a professional.
